One Room Challenge Week 1: Guest Bathroom Mood Board

It's almost April which means... TAX RETURN TIME! We nearly always put our tax return into savings but this year we have a different plan. You see, our guest bathroom is in major need of some TLC. We live in a relatively new house so it's not as if we need to do a major renovation, it's really more of cosmetic changes that are needed. It's been a while since I've created a mood board so I figured I'd give it a go!

Here are a few pictures of what our bathroom looks like right now. So you can see that no major renovation is needed. The floors are great and the shower is fine (for now). What we really need is paint, a new vanity, new light fixture, a new mirror and some fun accessories.

I really feel like this investment would be a good one because this is the most unwelcoming bathroom for our guests and am actually embarrassed when people have to use it (not kidding). Not only that but we do actually use this bathroom daily as it's also the only bathroom with a tub and baths are a part of our nightly routine.

It's time to say 'Bye Bye' to these yellow walls!

My signature style is a mixture of transitional, traditional, farmhouse and country so that is exactly what I see for this bathroom makeover! My goal is to keep this under $1000! I'm really hoping I can score a few of the big pieces on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

So let's break it down!

The biggest changes that need to be made to this room are cosmetic. I would start by switching out the vanity for a larger one with more storage and more counter space like this one from Ikea. Then, I would love to swap out the light for something more my style like this one. Then instead of the small rectangular mirror I'd love to add a large pivot round mirror with black trim like this one.

My hope would be to add shiplap on the wall behind the vanity using 'White Dove' by Benjamin Moore (matches all the trim) and then paint the rest of the walls my new go-to greige 'Revere Pewter' also by Benjamin Moore. I am lucky that I absolutely love the tile floors we have in this bathroom so nothing would need to be done there.

Then for the decorative accessories, I would love to add some shelves above the toilet for knick knacks and necessities as well as swap out the existing silver hooks on the storage piece you see above for these black ones I added. All in all, I'd love to keep this small renovation below $1,000 but I'm already worried I may have to switch up the design due to plumbing.
