Kitchen Reno Mood Board

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

As you know, our bathroom makeover that we completed as part of the One Room Challenge recently came to a close, leaving me feel anxious with nothing to look forward to. So, I decided to put together a little bucket list of things I wanted to get done this summer. One of those things includes a budget kitchen reno, or a facelift if you will.

When I say budget friendly, I really mean it! I'm not talking tens of thousands of dollars I am talking less than $1000, WAY less. I am currently a SAHM with a VERY part-time, work from home gig that helps with groceries here and there but we are very much a one income family so when I get the itch to do a large makeover it has to be cheap(ish).

Sometimes when I get these crazy ideas my husband flat out says no because he worries these budget makeovers will look like they were done on a budget but after completing three $100 Room Makeovers and most recently making over our guest bathroom he is learning to trust my visions!

So what am I scheming up now? An entire kitchen makeover for under $1000! Yup. I'm not kidding! I have a vision and I'm ready to make it happen! Let's break it down!

Cabinets

I have legitimately been terrified to paint our kitchen cabinets thinking I'd regret the decision but I decided I want my dreamy white kitchen! I have come up with excuse after excuse as to why I didn't want white cabinets but they were all lies I was telling myself. After doing a bit of research and asking for advice on my Instagram page I feel confident that we can paint these cabinets white and have a major impact on this space! BONUS: Painting the cabinets should cost less than $100!

Backsplash

Our kitchen currently does not have a backsplash and I've been itching to add one since we moved in! I'm thinking we will stick with a classic white subway tile with a grey grout. I have no idea the cost for this but we don't have an extremely large space to complete so I'm hoping this is anything thing we can keep under $100.

Island

I'd love to add some shiplap to the backside of this kitchen island but instead of using plywood I'm hoping we can find some peel and stick sort of faux shiplap. It's such a small amount of space that we should be able to find this and do it cheap!

Pantry

I'm hoping to get our pantry in tip-top shape organizing wise but I'd also like to switch out the exiting bi-fold doors and make a sliding barn door. In an ideal world I'd like one door to be all chalkboard and then other to be a true barn door. I'm hoping that the hubby and I can use our new found woodworking skills to make the door from scratch because they can be pricey! If all else fails I will probably be following Erin from Lemons, Lavender & Laundry's lead and making the bi-fold barn doors!

Accessories

First thing for accessories has to be paint. I'm wanting to ditch the current green color we have and paint the kitchen my new go-to greige 'Revere Pewter' by Benjamin Moore. I'd love to add some pendant lighting over the Island. I'd use black cup pulls on the cabinets and add some industrial style barstools to the island to tie in the metal and wood accents from around the room. I'd love to tie in all the black accents by switching out our current faucet for a black farmhouse style.

All together I really think we can complete this makeover for less than $1000 and I think it would be a game changer for our house. We use this room every single day (obviously) and we spend a lot of time in here. Not to mention that this is the room everyone hangs out in when we have guests over so I'd love to have a space that I love to show off. We may never be able to build our true dream house but we can certainly create ours and it doesn't have to cost a fortune!
