DIY Pom Pom Trim Curtains

Friday, August 7, 2015

In last week's DIY post I showed you how I created my West Elm Inspired Curtain Rods. This week we are finally going to dress them with some DIY Pom Pom curtains!

That's right... I'm back with more DIY curtains! And these were much easier than the last with a big impact!

I first started seeing this pom pom trend in fashion and then I literally just had this idea to add pom pom trim to some basic curtains (no joke... sometimes I come up with things before I see them via Pinterest) so naturally I had to join in this totally fun trend!

Side note: If you're looking for ways to add this trend to your home check out {R} Favorites Friday which features all things pom-poms and tassels.

Let's get started!

What you will need:
  • Curtains (I am using my favorite 'project' curtains which are from Ikea)
  • Pom Pom Trim (I picked mine up on Etsy here)
  • Glue Gun

Step 1: Prep Your Curtains
If you have just purchased your curtains you will want to make sure all the wrinkles and crinkles are out of them! I simply gave mine a quick wash and dry and was satisfied.

Step 2: Choose Trim Layout
When adding your pom pom trim you can have the actual trim showing or just the pom-poms. I chose to have it hidden so that the only thing you could see were the pom-poms peaking their cuteness out (see examples below).

Step 3: Apply Trim
First things first, make sure you are gluing on the right side of the curtain. I chose to only add the trim to the inside of each curtain panel. I actually made a set of these last weekend for my little sis and ended up doing the wrong side on one of the panels (thankfully, she wasn't too mad... we're just going to go double sided on that one).

I started by adding my trim in 3 inch increments. This way you make sure that the trim is straight!

You will need to be quick once you've laid the glue down. Simply pat down the trim with your fingers!

Step 4: Hang your curtains!
In less than an hour you have transformed your basic curtains into these adorable pom-pom trim curtains! I love this project turnout!

  1. I was thinking of dying the bottom of my home studio curtains in an ombre but not sure if it would work out so it might be safer to add poms!

  4. Aww..so cute and fun!! I've been wanting some pom poms in my house and this is so simple! However, I have toddlers; do you think the pom poms will pull off easily since they are only hot glued? I find that sometimes that stuff is not the most durable if you give it a tug. These would be such a great fit for our play area (curtain-less) windows!!

    1. Hi Kristi- they actually really stay put! I think you would really have to pull very hard to get it off and its a quick fix if anything were to happen! I have seen people complete this project by sewing on the trim but I unfortunately cannot sew.
