If you can believe it I actually have more to say about hardware. This time with a twist... I made these pulls!

I originally saw this idea on Pinterest (of course) and immediately knew this was exactly what I needed to spruce up my 11 year old bedroom furniture!

I actually started out thinking I could by-pass the DIY part and buy these pre-made (impatience sometimes gets the best of me) but I searched and searched to no avail. So, I buckled down and channelled my inner DIY goddess to create these pulls. It is amazing to me that random parts from your local hardware store can be put together in such a way to create these ring pulls and really not look home made!


To start this project you will need the following items (pictured below):

•  Brass cotter pin
•  Brass flat washer
•  Brass finishing washer
• 1 inch Brass welded ring (these come in multiple sizes but for my project I wanted 1 inch)

The hardest items to find were the brass welded rings. The blog that inspired my project stated that you could easily find these at any local hardware store. Well, in the Chicago area this is simply not true. I literally went to every hardware store in the area; Home Depot, Lowes, and Ace. Nothing. Zip. Nada. I even went as far as visiting the local scuba shop, as apparently these brass rings are used for Scuba Diving. Still nothing. So what does a girl do? Well, I googled 'Brass Welded Ring' and noticed that Tractor Supply Co. sells them. So, I conned R into an adventure and drove over an hour to two different stores and bought them out (sorry to anyone needing these for what they are actually used for... though i'm not sure their actual purpose other than beautiful DIY 'gold' ring pulls).

Once you have your parts it's time for assembly! Let's get started!

Step 1: Remove old hardware (and do a happy dance to be getting rid of it!)

Step 2: Assemble pull
To assemble the pull you will need to pull the welded ring through the cotter pin to the end.

Then, pull the finishing washer up to where the ring meets the end of the cotter pin making sure the rounded side faces the ring.

At this point, this is what your pull should look like:

Step 3: Mount hardware
To mount the hardware you will simply push the cotter pin through the hole that should already exist in your drawer.

Then, pull the flat washer over the cotter pin until it is flush against the drawer.

Finally, you will simply fold the edges of the cotter pin back to hold hardware in place. (Note: If you have dedicates in your drawers you may want to fold the edges back so they do not snag)

Step 4: Pat yourself on the back for a DIY job well done!
