DIY Casa Beads (+Jute Tassels)

Saturday, December 16, 2017

If you're like me then you spend way too many hours a day scrolling through Instagram. You may even make a small purchase or two with the perfect photo in mind to add to your collection of squares. When these casa beads started to pop up everywhere I was a little confused at what they were and what their purpose was and I tried my hardest not to want them. Well, yesterday, I gave in and made a mini version! Haha. What's that saying... If you can't beat em', join em'?

This idea came about as I was wrapping gifts and trying to come up with some fun gift toppers using items I already owned. I had these small wooden beads from a previous Pinterest fail (aka the wood bead chandelier that never came to be). The only other items you will need are jute string and a very thin string and scissors. I was surprised I hadn't thought to do this project sooner with all of these items laying around!

Let's get started!

What you will need:

  • Wooden beads (I used 13 10mm beads and 13 12mm beads)
  • Jute string
  • Clear string
  • Scissors

The first thing you will want to do is make you jute tassels! Because I was making 'mini' casa beads to double as an ornament or present topped I made my tassels a little smaller than normal. I started by wrapping the jute string around my fingers several times.

Now it's time to make the casa beads!

I started with a little over a foot of my clear string (hard to see in pictures, sorry!)

Then, I simply started stringing the beads on the string alternating sizes of beads. For this part I used about 20 beads total.

Once all the beads were strung I tied them in a circle.

Then, I started to string the beads through both strings.

Once I had the amount of beads I wanted I simply tied one string around the last beads making a knot.

Then, I simply tried the string around the end of my jute tassel!

And it's finished!

Such a fun and easy project and the perfect gift topper for your farmhouse loving friends!

I also made this casa bead garland using all 14 mm beads with the same concept just stringing them on the clear string and adding jute tassels at each end!
