$100 Room Challenge Week 3: Best Rugs Under $100

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

It's that time again... $100 Room Challenge update day! If you are just tuning in you can catch up on Week 1 and Week 2 here. When I have done this challenge in the past it has been a lot easier to bring you helpful updates every week because I was working on so many DIY projects. This time, I was thrown off by the need for a new large area rug so most of my budget was spent there. I have been lucky that in all of my other $100 Room Makeovers I have not run into an issue such as this, causing me to blow my budget. So, while I thought about dropping out of the challenge, I also realized that sometimes these things happen in budget makeovers. When I realized I was going to need a new large area rug (8' by 10') I did do a lot of research to find the best resources to purchase large area rugs at my price point. So, this week I am bringing you a list of my favorite area rugs under $100.

I want to start by sharing my favorite resources for rugs- My top five favorite places to purchase rugs are:

  • Wayfair
  • RugsUSA
  • Amazon
  • Ikea
  • Target

I know it seems crazy to purchase something like a rug online but you'd be surprised how much you can learn about a rug from reviews alone. If you think about it, most of the time people only want to review something if they have had a bad experience so if you find a rug that has at least 4/5 stars you know it's a winner! Also, most reviews come with a real life picture of the rug in someone's home so you get a better feel for what the rug will look like in your home.

Money Saving Tip: Don't be afraid to use an outdoor rug inside! A lot of times they are priced really well AND they go on clearance once a year (at least here in Chicago!).

Here are a few of my favorite rugs found for under (or close to) $100!

Wayfair- 5' by 7' $100
Wayfair- 5' by 7' $54

Amazon 8' by 10' $116
Wayfair 5' by 7' $94 (I have this rug in my living room!)
Ikea- 8' by 10' $99
RugsUSA 5' by 7' $40

At Home- 8' by 10' $79
Ikea- 6' by 8' $79
Target- 5' by 7' $85
This list is definitely not all inclusive but after searching for a rug over the past couple of weeks these were some of the options I found that allowed me to stay in the challenge and stay under budget. I thought I might have to choose a 5' by 7' size rug until I found this one from At Home and it looks so much different in person than the pictures online! This proves that it helps to look at reviews if you are purchasing a rug online!

Here is what mine looks like!

It looks much more cream and gray in person than the pictures!

I hope this post was helpful! I know that buying a new rug can sometimes seem impossible on a small budget- but I assure you it isn't! Have you found any amazing deals on large area rugs? 2. Shopping for rugs online can be rough. I love the reviews too.

  3. I went through this a few months ago and did eventually find something online that worked for our space. We actually ended up getting a larger natural rug and buying a smaller accent rug to layer on top. We got the look we wanted for less money and it still covered the entire area. You can get such good deals online! This is a great resource!

  4. Those are great rugs at great price points! We will actually be shopping rugs for our new house soon because almost the whole main level is hardwood, and we'll need some rugs to warm it up and make it cozy :)
