$100 Room Challenge- THE REVEAL

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

It is REVEAL DAY for the $100 Room Challenge! I have been so so SO excited for this day! If you are unfamiliar with what this challenge is- it really is just as it sounds! You have $100 to makeover a room in just one month! This challenge is hosted by Erin at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry and I am joined by 20+ other bloggers who completed this challenge (you can see all of the reveals at the bottom of this post!). Also, just in case you missed it here are Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3 of this challenge!

If you've been following since the beginning of this challenge then you already know I chose to makeover our mudroom. One night, while my husband was on his nightly walk with our son, I busted out an old can of paint and got rid of the dark green in this room and that inspired me to do a complete makeover! I'm so happy I stumbled upon this challenge at just the right time at that Erin let me join in the fun!

Let's do a quick recap shall we?!

In Week 1 you saw me completely transform this room using paint from our Powder Room makeover. Two coats of paint and this room looked so much brighter!

Before!

After painting the walls!
Then, in Week 2 I made another big change by painting our backdoor black! I was going for a high contrast, big impact look and it worked!

Last week (in Week 3 of the challenge), I added this DIY Magnetic Bamboo shade to the door for $20!

Since last week, the big changes have been changing out the light fixture and adding decorative accessories! Let's take a look!

Welcome to our new mudroom!

I scored this wicker trunk from GoodWill for $5 a while back. I am not counting it towards my budget because I already owned it before the challenge began but I wanted to share this tip because it's a good reminder to check your local thrift store before buying new! I recently scored BIG and have been converted to thrifting!

Isn't this the perfect solution to hide all those shoes that pile up?! I plan to give this a few coats of paint to give it that weathered look- but didn't have time before this reveal... womp womp!

We were lucky not to have to do anything about the bead board and hooks! These were already here! One thing I wish I could have added, but was already over budget, were some river rocks to this boot tray. I think that would be an adorable touch!

I also didn't have to do much to our counter. I added a basket I had on hand for this 'drop zone'. I'm hoping all that random stuff that ends up all over our counter will be tossed in here so that it at least looks nice 🙈!

I went back and forth on this rug and then #reallife happened and one of my dogs decided they really wanted me to keep it (😒). I fount it at Target for $24.99, which was a quarter of my budget. It wasn't as big as I was hoping so I decided to layer it over my existing jute rug! Not only is this trend popping up all over the place it is also a money saving tip when you cannot afford the large area rugs!

I spent the most money swapping out our old boob light for this schoolhouse light fixture! Normally, in a budget makeover, I shy away from changes like this because I'd rather purchase something else but I stuck to my original mood board on this one. Was it necessary? No. But neither were the blinds I made, haha! I really procrastinated on ordering this because I was trying to find the BEST deal (that's what you do when you're on a tight budget!). Well, last Wednesday (a week away from reveal day) I realized I didn't have a light! So, I hopped online and saw that Home Depot was selling a version of this light for $35! Sold! I put that baby in my cart and it arrived two days later! I was so so happy with this change!

This sign was what pushed me over budget 😁... could I have left it out of this reveal? Of course! But that wouldn't have been very honest now would it... and I love to read this message every time I leave the house!

And just like this room is completely transformed! For $100! Now I love to walk by this room every day! I used to wish I could close a door to not have to see this space... that is no longer a problem!

The final details of this room are really just for show because this IS our mudroom so it's typically full of bags, coats, shoes, dog leashes and... MUD! Ha ha! But I still like this space to look nice! In a perfect world it would look like these pictures all the time- but I live in my perfect world and with two dogs, Chicago winters and a baby that means this space needs to be REAL and functional!

Let's see where my money went...

Paint- $10.88 (For the door)
Light Fixture- $35.44
Rug- $24.99
Bamboo Shade- $14.97
Magnets- $2.78/pc (2)
Sign- $8.98

TOTAL COST- $101.51

So, I went a TAD over budget! It happens! But I was able to paint, change a light fixture AND add accessories for just about $100. That's a pretty good deal!

May I asked where you bought your sign in the bathroom reveal that you showed? Today I choose Joy! That's one of my favorite quotes and I like the wood/metal. Thanking you in advance. This is my first time of visiting your blog.
