Woodland Nursery

It is absolutely crazy how much can change in a year! My life has been turned completely upside down in the most amazing way! I think it's pretty obvious by the title of this post that {R} and I welcomed a new member to our family, a perfect baby boy named Hudson😊! I could write an entire post about how much Motherhood has changed my life in the most amazing way [and maybe I will!] but today is all about Hudson's nursery.

When I found out I was pregnant I could not wait to get started designing the nursery and finally put my [secret] Pinterest boards to good use! I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to find out what we were having but ultimately decided that my type A personality could not wait (plus {R} wanted to know!). Once we found out it was a baby boy the design ideas started to flow.

My original design for Hudson's nursery was all grey and white and whimsical. That color scheme sounded great until I started reading 'the baby books' and found out that color is important for a baby's developing brain. So, I ended up with a palette that includes light blue, grey, white, orange with a few touches of green. The theme I ended up choosing is a fox/woodland theme and I absolutely adore how it all came together.

I have included links to all furniture/decor below- enjoy the tour! 😀

The first purchase for Hudson's room was his crib. I had my heart set on a simple, clean lines white crib. After hours of research looking for such a crib I ended up falling in love with the 'Marlow' crib from Pottery Barn. I was lucky enough to be gifted this beautiful PB crib by my parents but I was actually quite impressed with how inexpensive they are for the PB brand (Babies R Us was even more expensive).

I really went back and forth on a mobile. My initial design plan had an artsy custom leaf mobile included and then I found this gem. Not only does this adorable woodland animal mobile fit perfectly with our theme but it was too cute to say no to (and Hudson loves it!).

I practically designed the entire nursery around these woodland animal prints I found on Etsy by Yassis Place. Aren't they just adorable! 😍

As the room was starting to come together I felt that it lacked a punch of color. I wanted to incorporate a nice pop of orange in the curtains but I didn't want them to be too busy. I found these amazing orange stripe curtains on Overstock.com. They were a tad more expensive than I would normally spend on curtains but it was a moment where my finger pressed 'order' quicker than I could stop them, haha. In the end, I'm happy I splurged.

A must have on my nursery list was a 'reading nook'. I used picture ledges from Ikea to display all of the books Hudson received at our book themed baby shower (post on that coming soon!). I'm going to be totally honest here- while this is one of my favorite nursery projects, because it is so adorable, it can also be a little bit of a pain to access books if you have a lot of them. I suggest displaying your favorites and stashing the rest elsewhere 😁

Finding the perfect glider for our reading nook was quite the feat. I tested a few in store at Buy Buy Baby & Babies R Us but was not having any luck finding something small enough for this room and was hoping to spend under $300. I found this beautiful rocker/glider on Target's website for only $299! I fell in love with the grey color and white piping! [I also ordered on a day when all furniture was 20% off with an additional 10% off coupon I had been hoarding. Total cost- $250 for this beautiful glider and matching ottomon.]

For the side table, I ended up using an old table I had from Ikea that was taking up space in a guest room. With such a small room, I liked that it didn't take up visual space but has a large top for whatever my drink of choice is while rocking my sweet baby boy (most of the time it's a nice cup of coffee but sometimes a glass of vino 😉).

Our nursery has a unique shape and the wall we planned to put the dresser against is not very big. Still, I was determined to find a six drawer dresser large enough for a changing pad plus room for all those baby goos. I was so happy when I found this dresser on Target.com. It has since been discontinued but you can find similar dresser's here and here.

I know this isn't the most perfectly staged picture but its reality- babies come with a lot of different goos 😂 I originally wanted a tiered stand to organize everything but as a short term solution I put everything in this drawer organizer and once baby arrived I never made any changes. It's a nice 'everything' bin that I can just throw things in to keep the changing station clear. Also, I know others hate on them- but I swear our wipe warmer saved so many tears when Hudson was first born.

How cute is this campfire nightlight from Land of Nod?!

The final project I completed for Hudson's nursery was the wall behind his changing table. I had so many ideas for this wall from a large peg board to a custom monogram. After hours of scouring Pinterest for inspiration I decided I wanted to paint trees to tie in the woodland theme. After figuring out that I did not have the patience nor the time to complete such a task I started looking for wall decals instead. I could not believe that I found these birch tree decals on Amazon for $30! 😮 Best Amazon find to date! They literally took 10 minutes to apply and are so darn cute!

I then made this name banner from fresh cut wood rounds thanks to my cousins who recently bought land to build a house (tutorial coming soon😊).

I figured it was only appropriate to throw in a picture of my beautiful baby boy, Hudson! How adorable is his fox outfit?! 😍

  2. I'm sure you felt extremely blessed watching all of these details. The interior is so calming. I also hosted a chic baby shower for a friend at the local event venue. I used minimized theme for this bash so all of the DIY décor that I created was looking somewhat like this. Everyone adored the decorations a lot.
