Before I do the full reveal let's take a walk down memory lane through this past month. In Week 1, I shared my vision for this space. Week 2 brought 50 shades of greige paint colors as well as my love affair with Revere Pewter. In Week 3 of this challenge I rounded up my favorite area rugs with price tags under $100 after realizing I was going to need a new rug for this makeover (not necessarily in the budget- but we figured it out!). Finally, last week I showed you how I transformed old books into fun, neutral office decor.
Whew... what a month it has been! Well, let's get to the good stuff shall we!
Here is a look at what this room looked like before (on the day we moved in actually!).
And just like that this room became our office!
Can we first talk about how gorgeous my Grandfather's desk is?! Technically, I have been 'babysitting' this desk until it is passed along to my older sister (she claimed it years ago and I won't live it down if I don't mention it here) but until that day comes- I am going to enjoy this gorgeous desk!
Sidenote: I love frames that make it easy to switch out pictures! |
The biggest change we made to this room was painting the walls my new go-to gray, Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.
We also added this gorgeous rug that I scored for $80 at At Home! It really gives this space a whole new look!
I recently completed another room makeover, my son's playroom (see reveal here), and was lucky to be replacing the light fixture in that room. So, we put this chandelier in storage and hung a more 'officey' light fixture (and thank goodness because I cannot tell you how many times I bopped my head on that chandelier when I stood up from my desk, haha!).
UPDATE: We had trouble installing the light fixture with the glass bowl so I ordered some wood beads on Amazon and updated the light fixture for less than $20 (after reveal). See the tutorial here.

Speaking of 'borrowing'... these ladder shelves used to live in our family room but were uprooted to this new spot where I think they will have a better life! I love to fill my shelves with beautiful pieces but I also love to fill my home with pictures of those I love!
Ok- so the borrowing theme continues... I stole this chair from our master bedroom. It has definitely left a void in our room but if I am being 100% honest that chair was mostly used for throwing clothes on that I didn't feel like folding or putting away (yes... it was that chair). I really think this chair will actually be used here! And really brings the space together. I love the bright white of this piece and how it breaks up the dark wood pieces in this room.
I'll do a short and sweet budget breakdown below because I only made two purchases for this challenge! In all of my other $100 Room Challenge's I have never blown my budget on one big item like I had to on this challenge but I have always said a strict budget forces me to be creative. Most of the small design details you see in this space are items I already had on hand. I 'shopped by house' as they like to say.
Budget Breakdown:
Paint- $18
Rug- $79
Total Cost: $97
I hope you enjoyed this round of the $100 Room Challenge! Be sure to check out all of the other reveals linked below!

Love the new office. It's great when you can find a better home for furniture in your home. We also have a chair in the bedroom that never gets used expect for getting clothes off the floor. Your desk is beautiful. Like a piece of art and the whole vibe is sure to be a great place to work.
ReplyDeleteHi Patti! Yes, I agree about the furniture- much better to actually use it!! Thank you for visiting R&R :)
DeleteIt looks amazing! That desk is gorgeous and I'm sure you're glad to get to "babysit" it! Love the shelves too.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I am very glad to 'babysit' this desk- though my sister is going to have to pry it from my hands (which may be hard, haha!). Thank you for visiting!!
DeleteThat desk is gorgeous! I love how your room turned out! The wall color is perfection. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Emy! Thank you so much! This is my new favorite gray 'Revere Pewter'! Thank you for visiting the blog! :)
DeleteThat desk is amazing and the whole room is beautiful! I have thought about changing our dining room into an office as well but we don't have an eat-in kitchen so it seems impractical. Your room is making me second guess that though!
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie! This was the best decision I have made for this house for sure! We are lucky that we do have an eat in kitchen so it made sense for us but I can see why you may be hesitant if your dining room is your only eating space! Either way, it's always an option to use your dining room for more than just eating!! Thank you for stopping by the blog :)
DeleteOK - you have to keep that desk {sorry sister} ;) I LOVE that run. What a great deal! The whole space came together so well.
ReplyDeleteHi Gabby! I know! I am hoping she doesn't ask for it for a while, haha! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog :)
DeleteMy grandpa had a desk just like that. So beautiful! You made such a warm and inviting space.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that your Grandpa has the same desk! It really is a gorgeous piece! And Thank you for your kind words and visiting R&R at home! :)
DeleteThis is a beautiful office space! That chair was a total steal at the yard sale. And I agree that the chair is better suited for the space than as a fancy clothes hamper (which is why I told my husband I won't put a chair in our bedroom)!
ReplyDeleteHi Kati! Yes, the dreaded fancy clothes hamper! It is so nice to use this chair as an actual chair now! Thank you so much for visiting the blog :)
DeleteHow awesome to have a room just for an office - I love it! That's so special you can use your grandfather's desk even if for just a while! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! What an amazing desk (even if it's on borrowed time!). Your new rug just completed the space perfectly and it looks like the perfect place to work!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an inspiring space to work! I love what you did, especially working with so many things that you already have! And that desk is so beautiful! Well done!
ReplyDeleteEverything in here is perfection! That desk and chair truly belong together. And that rug! I would love to work in an office like this!
ReplyDeleteYour new office looks great! I absolutely LOVE that desk you are 'babysitting' and the chair goes with it perfectly. Lovely job!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! I love the mix of the old and the new and that desk is to die for! What a pleasure to be able to do work in a space like this. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my - THAT DESK! It's too bad you can't keep it, but totally make use of it for now because it's stunning. Your room looks gorgeous! I love how you styled all the accessories.
ReplyDeleteUnder budget... yay! What a great rug to splurge on with your budget too! Looks so good.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful space!!! That desk is gorgeous! (Hopefully you don't have to give it up too soon). I am so glad you joined in for another round of the challenge. Your spaces are simply stunning. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how your office turned out! I love how you went out on a limb and created a space you will actually use more! I feel like spaces in our homes should be used and loved and this room is perfect! Your Grandpa’s desk makes a wonderful statement piece in here (maybe your sister will forget? Ha!) and how awesome to find a chair that looks PERFECT for $8! Gotta love yard sales!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect! I can see sitting in that chair with a cup of coffee and your favorite read. What are those shelves called? Would be cool to add on either side of our desks. Oh my...think you started another project idea. 😂
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! And I love that chair. Enjoy your new office
ReplyDeleteNot only is this space pretty but it's also so functional! I've also changed a room's function in my home - I've never regretted it for a second. I also love that were able to repurpose so many things from around your home. I LOVE doing that! I've come to the conclusion that I sometimes add things with no idea where they'll live, but they always find the perfect home - just as you did here. Fantastic job! PS: Your rug is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that desk. The whole space looks fantastic. You must love having such a great space to work.
ReplyDeleteWow, your office looks so good! And I would certainly fight my sister to keep a desk like that! Superbe job!
