DIY Fall Doormat

Sunday, September 23, 2018

I have been seeing so many fun, custom doormats popping up on Pinterest and Instagram lately and knew I had to try to make my own for my fall porch!

I am not sure where I saw this idea first but I couldn't resist this cute 'Hey There Pumpkin' idea! There are so many ways you could use this tutorial to customize your own doormat!

What you will need (this post may contain affiliate links- you can read my full disclosure here):

*Note: It is very possible to do this project without a vinyl cutter by simply printing out the same lettering, using an exacto knife to create a stencil and following the same steps. For the purpose of providing a full tutorial, I will be showing you the steps I used with my Cricut.

The first thing I needed was a plain doormat. I've heard that Ikea sells these for a steal ($5) but I was able to pick one up at my local Target for $9.99. Not too bad! And without having to make the trip to Ikea I figured it was worth it.

The first thing I did was create my stencil using the Cricut Design Space.

Once the stencil was cut and weeded I simply applied it to the plain doormat.

Once I had the stencil exactly where I wanted it I began to paint. I used a small, thin, firm brush and dabbed the paint. This type of paintbrush allowed me to get deep into the mat.

Once I had painted all I had to do was simply remove the stencil and voila! A brand new fall doormat!

It is the perfect addition to my fall porch! Be sure to check back next Friday for my full Fall porch reveal! I am so excited to be joining a group of talented bloggers for this tour!
