Office Turned Playroom- New Year New Room Refresh

Thursday, January 4, 2018

In my last post you saw how I plan to transform our dining room into a functional office space for the $100 Room Challenge. Today, I would like to share how I am going to be transforming our old office into a Kid's playroom for the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge!

This challenge is a little bit different than the $100 Room Challenge because there is no budget, which is good because this rug alone is about $100😁! I don't plan to go crazy but I knew I didn't want to be limited by a budget since this is a room we will most likely use for years to come!

Here is what this room currently looks like:

Let's get started!

Paint

This room has a chair rail that I would rather not mess with so I will actually be using it to create a fun contrast. I plan to paint the top a light greige (still searching for the perfect color- share your favorites with me in the comments) and I have a fun surprise planned for the bottom part!

Furniture

I currently have zero furniture for this room except an Anywhere Chair that my son was gifted for Christmas but that may or may not have a permanent place in this space. My plan is to buy the Kallax storage system at Ikea with 8 compartments to organize my son's toys and books. Other than that I hope to have tons of floor space for my son to play.

Lighting

The light fixture in this room does not fit with the fun kids theme I have going. I hope to switch it out for a fun industrial light fixture to tie in a rustic element.

Accessories

I have soooo many fun DIY projects up my sleeve for this room! The first is DIY'ing these storage bins from Land of Nod. I wish I could afford the original version but I would like to have at least 4 bins and at $15 a pop I would rather spend my money elsewhere. I would also like to do my own version of this 'Adventure Awaits' sign I saw at Hobby Lobby using an old map. I'm also looking to make a large DIY chalkboard to take up almost an entire wall for when my son gets a little older.

I am so excited to get started on this room transformation! First up, paint... and lots of it!

As Always, Thank you for visiting R&R at home!

  1. This looks like it will a super fun space! I have to learn how to create these mood boards too. They are so awesome in showing what a plan is for a room. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
