Happy NEW Year! Truth be told I am not really a New Year's Resolution kind of girl- I am more of a New Year's Renovation person! Which is why I LOVE to start the new year by participating in the $100 Room Challenge!
So which room is this year's victim? Our bedroom! Yup! That's right! I am going to be making over our Master Bedroom for $100! I have big plans for this room on a small budget. Lots of paint and DIY's involved in this makeover with a goal of making the space brighter.
Once upon a time dark wood was all the rage and to some it still may be but I'm looking to add a ton of white to this space to make it feel like a dreamy oasis.
Here is what the space looks like now:
It isn't a terrible space but most of the things in this room we have had for years and I felt it was time to give this room some attention and update a few things to my new tastes.
Here are some of my plans!
The first thing I am going to do it change the upholstery on our headboard to something lighter. I'm hoping to use a sheet or a drop cloth to keep costs down! We actually DIY'd our current headboard so this will really only be a matter of stapling some new fabric and possibly adding some buttons to create a tufted look.
Next, I plan to paint our current side tables using some milk paint I won in a giveaway- OR using whatever leftover paint I can find- possible from our Kitchen Cabinets! Hoping to make this project virtually free.
Our currently blinds situation is sad- we are using the roman shades that were left here but they are a different shade of beige than our wall. To bring in a natural element I'm hoping to add some bamboo shades and show an easy way to make them 'black out' on a budget. I also have an old set of white curtains laying around from Ikea that I'd like to get up to add some warmth.
Finally, I'd love to add a fun piece of artwork above the bed or simply keep the DIY hanging shelf I made not too long ago but add a fun sconce light above it to add interest.
I'm thinking these small changes will have a HUGE impact on this space.
I have some other plans for this bedroom down the road including adding a barn door and a new rug but those things would put me over the budget so we'll call this phase 1!
Be sure to check out all of the bloggers participating in this challenge! It is my favorite room makeover challenge of the year as it forces me to be as frugal and creative as possible!
As always, Thank you for visiting R&R at home!

I never doubt that your rooms are going to turn out beautifully. I love your ideas for this room and it makes me kinda want to switch over and do our master bedroom instead of my son's room... Think he'd mind?! (Kidding. He'd be so disappointed.) Can't wait to see how you makeover this room! YAY!!! So glad you are participating again!
