I know hate is a strong word but I feel it is okay to use when it comes to Home Decor- and I have hated the old roman shades in our bedroom since the day we moved into this house. I don't necessarily hate all roman shades but these were the wrong color, difficult to close (the string was on the inside) and all around not my taste. I am so glad that these were the first thing to go for this month's $100 Room Challenge!
I have been wanting to change out these shades since our realtor handed us the keys but... priorities. This didn't seem like a necessary project since our entire first floor needed new blinds (there weren't any). Days turned into months, months to years and it kept getting put at the bottom of my to-do list. Thanks to this challenge, I have finally found my moment to take these shades down (cue the Hallelujah chorus 🙌)!
Let's take a quick look at the before...
When I was planning to update our window treatments I knew I wanted something that let in light, added warmth but also provided some privacy. I have always been intrigued by bamboo blinds but have never given them a try... until now!
When I first set out to find bamboo shades I checked our local Home Depot because I have found them there before for our Mudroom Makeover in last year's $100 Room Challenge but ours quit carrying them in store. After a quick google search I noticed that Menard's had clearanced out these bamboo shades so I traveled to 4 different stores to get the sizes needed (I had to go to 4 because one I found was missing hardware- so I had to go exchange). I'm not sure if gas is included in this challenge but by doing this I scored all three shades for $38 TOTAL! MAJOR steal! Sometimes you have to put in some miles to get a deal!
Two of our windows are dormer windows, one being a window seat, so it didn't make sense to add curtains which is another reason I love these shades- they add texture and warmth with no curtains needed.

Here's a peek at another project we got done this weekend! |
The window next to our bed needed some extra oomph so I added these Vivan curtains I had laying around from our previous home (these curtains are $13 [used to be $10] for two panels and are 96 inches in length- and are great for all sorts of DIY projects- like these DIY Pom Pom curtains or these DIY Greek Key Curtains). I'm not adding this into this project's total because I already had them but they're seriously so budget friendly!

DeleteLove it all! And I know the feeling... sometimes it's just worth $5 to not have to run to another store; especially with kids in tow.
ReplyDeleteThose were my thoughts exactly- I figured it was best to best honest but man- I could have used that $5 other places, haha! I'm a bit over budget with this one!
