Introducing: {R} Favorites- All about that Ikat!

Thursday, July 2, 2015

When I started this blog I had grandiose ideas of what it would be. I imagined picking a project every week to complete, taking pictures of said project, editing those pictures, while also having time to blog about it. It didn't take me long for reality to sink in. Not only do I not have the time for that type of blogging lifestyle (what with a full time job, two pups and a hubby to cater to) but I also lack the space to complete 52 projects a year (for now at least)! So what's a girl with big blogging dreams to do?

Well, I was on the train home after work (a daily routine I have a love/hate relationship with) and was doing my daily Pinterest ritual (you know... pinning and envisioning my perfect home, my perfect meal plan, and my perfect body, ha!) and I was trying to find a way to incorporate my favorite trends into my blog without having to always incorporate them into my own home (I mean my budget can only allow so many home updates every year). So {R&R} is transforming, in a way, from being a blog all about our home projects (don't worry I'll still do those too!) to a place to also share all of my thoughts/ideas regarding house and home.

That being said, I am going to be introducing some new 'feature' posts. I cannot guarantee these will be daily, weekly, or even bi-weekly but more of a 'go with the flow' type of schedule. Basically, when the mood strikes. This week I would like to introduce one of these feature posts which will be called '{R} Favorites'.

{R} Favorite this week? We're all about that Ikat! Ikat is like the new chevron. And I am totally on board! And much like chevron (or really any trendy pattern) you can go too far! The good news for us Ikat lovers is that there are several variations so you may be able to get away with a few different patterns in one space (there is literally a chevron variation!). You may be surprised by all of the different patterns out there you never even knew were considered 'Ikat'! With endless choices your decision on what to update may not be easy (but it will be fun)!

Here are may favorite finds!

I love this simple dot variation. This pillow comes in pink or navy! Perfect if you are re-doing a girl's bedroom or want to add a splash of color to your couch for the spring and summer months!

I LOVE the pillow covers offered on Etsy! Check out this cute Ikat find.

Grey & Gold Ikat Print Linen Pillow Cover $24
And just because I think throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to incorporate a new pattern into your space check out this absolutely adorable metallic Ikat pillow!

Metallic Ikat Pillow $58

Here is another way you can incorporate the dot Ikat design into your room! These curtains will add that fresh look you may be searching for! This is also a way to add some texture without being too busy.

Ikat Ogee Linen Curtain $79-99

If you're looking for a more 'traditional' Ikat design this rug is perfect! I typically like my rugs to be neutral but make a statement. This does both! The only problem is that rugs can be expensive so this is a bit of a splurge the bigger you go (but oh so totally worth it!).

Gila Area Rug $358

How about adding a statement piece to your living space with this accent chair? I am loving the neutral colors and traditional Ikat pattern! You could add this chair just about anywhere!

Addison Chair- Gray Ikat $300
Looking for the perfect piece to add to your gallery wall? This colorful print would be perfect! It is also a wonderful addition to a girl's room! Another awesome Etsy find!
Pastel Ikat Print $13.90
Another option to incorporate this pattern on the wall and add some color would be to add one of these adorable Ikat print letters! Try an initial or try them all by making an alphabet statement wall for a nursery/kids room! #love

I've always felt like you can experiment with new patterns in your bathroom so maybe a shower curtain is more to your liking! This pop of yellow will brighten any bathroom.

Trina Turk Ikat Shower Curtain $59.99

Decorative bath towels are a good option as well. You can stack them on open shelving to add some color and texture to a more neutral bathroom!

Tangier Ikat Bath Towel $9
Another bold way to incorporate this pattern into your space is with bedding. I love this grey and yellow color combo!

Organic Ikat Diamond Duvet $59

Maybe you're looking to make more of a statement. I am obsessed with this wall paper! It would make one heck of an accent wall! And the neutral coloring makes it the perfect pairing partner.

Kelly's Ikat White/Soft Gray Wallpaper $89/roll (but so worth it!)

Have I convinced you yet that this pattern is the perfect statement to add to your home's decor? Well, I'm in love. And there are so many options out there to help you do this in any room of the house! I love doing posts like this because I end up finding so many things I love that I never knew were out there!

How will you incorporate Ikat into your home's decor? Any other great finds you want to share with me? Let me know in the comments below!

As always, Thank you for visiting {R&R} at home!

Note: I am not sponsored by any of these sites. I simply like sharing my finds with anyone who decides to read this :)

  1. I didn't know that pattern had a name...but now I'm sure I'll be seeing it everywhere! I love that first set of curtains you posted...and those letters are super fun too. I also really like the idea of including general thoughts about house and home. I can't imagine doing 52 projects in a year...or really even 1 project, but I'm not a DIYer :)
